This Story…. Last Friday (April 22) was an interesting day at the ER. We admitted a 32-year-old female patient who was exhibiting lower abdominal pains. She seemed to be in excruciating pain and was very restless. A urine pregnancy test was positive so the attending suspected possible ruptured ectopic pregnancy. Her initial blood pressure was nil (indicating severe hypotension) but rose to 80/58mmHg after 2.5 L of fluids. Further assessment confirmed the diagnosis and so the decision was made to take her in for an emergency exploratory laparoscopy. As the team prepared for the surgery, the maternity and baby unit caught fire (electrical cause). This resulted in chaos as patients and staff began running for their lives. The fire was quickly contained and extinguished. Thankfully, no one was harmed. Due to the electrical cause of the fire, we decided to transfer the patient to the “big” hospital in Kumasi. She was quickly loaded onto the ambulance and driven to Kumasi. She was

Praise and Prayer request The blood pressure monitors mentioned in the last post were officially presented to the hospital on Monday April 18. Below are some pictures of the presentation. Again, we are very thankful and appreciative of the generosity of Dr. and Mrs. Skaggs. As previously mentioned, these monitors will help us tremendously in hypertension management. Presenting the monitors to the hospital. CEO, Mr Amankwaa received them on behalf of the hospital. I presented the monitors on behalf of Dr. and Mrs. Skaggs. This new dad was saddened by the presence of a cleft lip on his child and requested help/advise from me. Fortunately, hi

My internet connection hasn’t been good for about a week.  This will be short entry because I am  afraid I will lose the connection before I post this.  Work at the hospital is going smoothly as usual. Lots of exciting things are happening. Working with management, we were able to secure a cardiac monitor for the unit in addition to an automatic defibrillator. These had been donated to the hospital a while ago.  I was told that the unit used to have a cardiac monitor which broke down. It was taken for repairs and never returned. I am glad that the unit has access to another one. Glory be to God. Another praise report; We are very grateful to Dr. and Mrs. JB & Judy Skaggs of Cloverport, Kentucky for providing automatic blood pressure monitors for the hospital. The Skaggs are members of the Cloverport United Methodist Church and have been loyal supporters of this mission.  Thank you ver
